About Blue Buddha Charters
Colby is a fly fishing guide that specializes in taking anglers flats fishing around the gulf coast of Florida. He ties his own fly's which are commercially available through Rainy's Flies. He started guiding here in Fl 2006, targeting multiple species of shallow water fish with the most popular being tarpon. Fishing season is year round. He also teaches casting lessons and night fishing. The style of angling is based upon sight fishing which is seeing the fish before you make the cast.

Fly fishing is a passion that makes every trip magical.
I have been catch and release fishing for over 50 years and fly fishing for the last 30 of those years.
This passion has taken me from my home waters fishing for bonefish and permit in Bisa cayne bay, the Florida Keys and Abaco, to chasing bull reds as often as I can in the bayou in southern Louisiana, to our annual trips for coho salmon in Alaska.
Through these journeys I have fished with many guides around the world.
I had the pleasure of recently fishing with Capt. Colby Hane in Sarasota/ Bradenton Florida looking for redfish and snook in the inshore areas south of Tampa bay.
Captain Colby is not only a precise boat handler and exquisite skipper but his patience and enthusiasm for every set up is rewarding.
Having fished with dozens of saltwater fly fishing guides Capt Colby is truly outstanding.
He knows his stuff from the conditions to the habitat to how to improve even an old salty fisherman.
The fun part is he is a great guide, teacher and extremely patient.
His humor is only surpassed by his knowledge of fish locations and behavior. He is also bright, friendly and engaging.
His communication skills and boat positioning while we are sighting fish is outstanding and his encouragement is rewarding.
Being new to the Sarasota Bradenton area, I am rewarded having been introduced to him and we have fished 3 times in 2 weeks (Spring 2023)
Having met him, I am contemplating selling my flats boat and just going with him whenever I can.
